Yoga flow

Close to the beach in a seaside suburb sits an east/west facing 1960s three-bedroom house with a tiny bathroom and a cramped, closed-off kitchen, separated from the indoor and outdoor living spaces. The owners love an outdoor lifestyle and so the Brief was to improve the flow of the house by redesigning the kitchen and wet areas without extending the main roof.

The architect’s solution demolishes the internal walls between the kitchen, living and entry hall to create one flowing open-plan space, with the kitchen flipped to the eastern side of the roof (for morning sun) and the living opening onto the large deck for afternoon hangs. The wet areas are also extended to fit an extra bathroom and a separate laundry, while removing a small passage space.

The material palette is all about laid back beachy fun, VG groove boards and solid colours.
