How to select furniture to match your new space

It is so easy to buy locally designed and made furniture in Adelaide - there are some fantastic designers here. First you need to plan your space with accurate furniture placement with your architect to make the most of small spaces, and then keep it flexible by allowing for multiple furniture arrangements for different sized groups, and of course, maximise the storage.

Supporting local is the best as it saves on transport time (international shipping is extremely slow at the moment) and it uses much less embodied carbon. The American Ash timber table and matching chairs by local designer/makers Agostino & Brown (shown in the photos) comfortably sit 6-8 people and the warm tones work well with a plywood feature wall. The detailing of the criss-cross chair structure and the expressed table leg through the top of the table is clever and fun. The solid timber chairs and table surface can be sanded and refinished in future to extend the life of the pieces (once a veneer is damaged it’s very hard to fix).

Loose and light items like the Quadrant Sofa by Koskela are easy to position for a conversation or a relax in front of the fire - just spin them around!
